TRICS® celebrates its 20th birthday with the launch of version 2009(a)v6.3.1

TRICS® celebrated 20 years as the national standard system of trip generation and analysis on 1st April 2009, by releasing version 2009(a)v6.3.1, containing a significant number of system developments and new surveys.

Since its launch in 1989, TRICS® has, closely working with its community of member organisations, evolved through a series of system enhancements. Our interactive approach has maintained the system as an integral and essential part of the Transport Assessment process, with it now being used at some 600 locations across the UK and Ireland.

Version 2009(a)v6.3.1 continues this trend, with the system adopting a number of new features, some of which are as follows:

  • Our Geographic Map facility has now been fully integrated into Google Maps, providing users with additional detail and flexibility when viewing lists of sites.
  • A new “Journey Purpose” survey count has been introduced for some Standardised Assessment Methodology (SAM) sites.
  • The number of TRICS® data regions has expanded from 12 to 17, with data in Ireland being re-structured to accommodate a growing survey programme.
  • Explanatory development data within Residential land use categories has been enhanced to provide users with greater detail.

In addition to these system developments, 2009(a)v6.3.1 sees one of the largest additions of new data the system has seen since its launch. In total, 164 new survey sites haven been added to the database in this release, bringing the total number of available surveys up to 5,600.

All users can access the new version by logging in to the Members Area of this website in the normal manner. A downloadable, off-line version is also available once logged in, which incorporates a system of automated updating, to ensure that users are always operating the current version as is automatically the case on-line.

The issue of version 2009(a)v6.3.1 is the first part of a two-stage process, with further significant enhancements planned for the subsequent system update at the end of June this year.
