Surveys
For new and expanding developments it is anticipated that the costs of data collection for the monitoring process will be met by the applicant. This is current practise and therefore is not a new cost requirement. It is recommended that the costs are specified in a Section 106 Planning Obligation associated with the application. The costs of data collection vary according to the layout of the site and other factors, in particular the number of days it is necessary to survey and the complexity and number of access and egress points that have to be covered.

i)  Specification £500 – TRICS® will

  • Visit the site;
  • Detail the appropriate data collection technique and obtain a cost for the survey to be undertaken by one of the approved contractors;
  • The planning authority can then decide whether to proceed with the survey at the charge quoted (plus specification fee) at the applicant’s expense.

ii)  Multi-modal survey from £2,000 per site (costs depend upon complexity of surveying site)– TRICS® will

  • Visit the site;
  • Detail the appropriate data collection technique;
  • Arrange for the survey to be undertaken by an approved contractor; and
  • Validate the data and report the results.

Note: all costs exclude VAT.

Trip Generation Estimates
In some circumstances the applicant may wish to commission a trip generation and mode share estimate to assist the setting of appropriate targets in stage 2. The TRICS® Bureau Service is able to provide this information to a high standard, based on expert knowledge of trip generation. The applicant will need to provide details of floor space, design, etc, to enable an appropriate estimate to be developed. The cost is detailed below.

  • Trip Generation Estimate by TRICS® Bureau Service £750 (+VAT)

Independent Arbiter
In some circumstances the applicant may wish to enlist the Association for Commuter Transport (ACT) to act as an independent arbiter to consider mitigating circumstances or any other factors affecting the results. If this approach is agreed, the findings of ACT will be binding for both parties. The cost is detailed below.

  • Independent Audit of Results by ACT £500 (+VAT)

Please contact Dr Colin Black, Chairman of ACT, for further details.
