TRICS® prepares for forthcoming system updates

All organisations can now book their delegate places at the 22nd annual TRICS® National Transport and Development Conference, which this year is taking place in London on 17th November.

The theme of this year’s conference is “Managing Movement”, and having been reformatted into a single day event, it is to be hosted at a unique and fascinating venue, The Magic Circle Headquarters in London. In association with the Chartered Institute of Highways and Transportation (CIHT), and counting towards their CPD training, there will be a selection of high quality papers presented on a variety of contemporary transport and development topics.

The annual TRICS® User Meeting took place in Birmingham in June, with a record number of delegates attending the event to find out about TRICS® developments and to have their say in the future of the system.

A series of presentations were given on a range of TRICS®-related topics, including proposed system developments in 2010/11, an auditor’s guide to good practice, the growing importance of modal split information, a case-study of a multi-modal survey at a residential development, and details of how TRICS® data is put through our validation process to ensure quality and robustness. Each of these presentations (in Powerpoint format) are available by clicking HERE. A summary of attendee feedback can also be found HERE.

The latest publication of the TRICS® Good Practice Guide is now freely available, and can be accessed directly by clicking HERE.

The updated guidance is essential reading for both producers and recipients of TRICS® data, and is a document that is widely used at all stages of the planning process, up to and including Public Inquiry level.  It covers methods of best practice across all elements of the system, and has been updated annually since it was first written in 2005. The TRICS® Consortium feels it is essential to promote good practice, and we always welcome your own ideas for future updates.

Following the release of TRICS® version 2010(b)v6.6.1 on 30th June 2010, preparations are also underway for the next series of updates to both the on-line and off-line versions of the system.

Version 2010(b)v6.6.2 is scheduled for release in September, which will be a database update containing a number of new surveys across a variety of land use categories. This will be followed by 2011(a)v6.7.1 in December, which shall include the first stage of the 2010/11 system enhancements, along with further survey data across a number of regions and land uses.

Updates to the software are released every 3 months, so member organisations can get to use new survey and system enhancements at regular intervals. This dynamic approach is key to ensuring that TRICS® remains up-to-date as the UK standard for trip generation analysis.
