Work commences on 2010 Data Collection Programme
Site visits for next year's data collection programme will be commencing in November. We will be achieving good coverage both regionally and by land use, taking into account the valuable feedback which we have received from the TRICS® Community by way of questionnaire responses and our annual user meetings. We are committed to maintaining a high quality database with stringently validated information. The survey windows for the 2010 programme will be March to July and September to November.

Econometric Analysis of Land Uses
TRICS® recently published its Research Report 09/1 entitled 'An econometric study of the relationship between land use and vehicle trip generations'. This report is now available within the Library module of the TRICS® system (and is also available to purchase upon request). it has emerged from the sponsorship of a PhD course of study by the TRICS® Consortium in collaboration with the Economic and Social Research Council, with inputs from JMP, the University of Portsmouth and the University of Surrey.
The principal purpose of the report is to summarize evidence from a series of economic studies into the relationships between land use, land zone and trip generations using the TRICS® database. In particular the work sought to answer a number of questions and particularly, establish a scientifically grounded response to two key issues: (i) can the data held in TRICS® be used for 'sound' econometric modelling, and (ii) using appropriate econometric methods, is whether or not is land zone placement (as defined in accordance with Planning Policy Guidance definitions) a genuinely important determinant of trip generation behaviour.
Please contact the TRICS® team for more details. ▲
TRICS® takes its place at universities
We are proud to report that universities are now including TRICS® within their MSc Transport Assessment modules. Recently we have been working with Napier University Edinburgh, The Dublin Institute of Technology, the University of Westminster, and the University of Newcastle, among others. Students have found these sessions very helpful, and a number of students have been considering undertaking their dissertations using TRICS®, with the possibility of future research collaborations currently being discussed. ▲
TRICS® Training Sessions available
TRICS® training sessions are available to all users. These sessions consist of a full system demonstration plus an interactive workshop session, which allows attendees to fully test the system. These sessions continue to receive good feedback and have been popular with our members at universities, councils and consultancies.
For information on training sessions, please contact Ian Coles. ▲
Quarterly payment option available
The current economic situation has affected everyone in the TRICS® Community to some degree, so licence fees from 1st April 2009 have been frozen at 2008 levels.
We are also pleased to confirm the availability of a quarterly payment option for all of our members. We understand that cash-flow can be an issue, and so this new option allows user organisations to spread the cost of their annual licences across four quarterly payments, rather than having to pay for their licence in one go. For those wishing to take up this offer, four invoices will be forwarded instead of one, at three-monthly intervals. This does not affect user expiry dates in any way, and all you need to do to set up this option is contact a member of the TRICS® Development Team when your licence is due for renewal. ▲
Free 1 month trial of TRICS® available
A free 1-month trial of the latest full version of TRICS® is available to all organisations upon request. Throughout the free trial period full technical support is available at no cost, and there is no obligation once the period has expired.
Many organisations have already found this trial useful. Anyone interested in the free trial should contact the TRICS® team. ▲ |
