Funding Raised for PhD Study
Traffic Generation & Land Use in the UK

March 2004

TRICS, which is dedicated to improving understanding of transport and development planning issues, has received match funding from the Economic and Social Research Council to support a PhD student for three years in the Department of Economics at the University of Surrey.

Part of the student’s time will be spent at the partner company, transport planning consultant JMP Consulting, which maintains and markets TRICS on behalf of a consortium of six local authorities.

Generation of traffic from land use development is a matter of topical concern, but has not been adequately supported by systematic and direct empirical evidence.

The student will be expected to further understanding of relationships by combining socio-economic information with the unique TRICS data on the traffic levels and traffic composition associated with various types of land use developments across the UK.

The closing date for applications is April 30. An application pack and details of how to apply can be down-loaded from http://www.surrey.ac.uk under Job Opportunities or alternatively via e-mail on s.lesanne@surrey.ac.uk or by telephoning 01483 682605.
